Range & Wall Oven - Manually Cleaning a Self Clean Oven
Most models of Ranges and Wall Ovens feature a Self-Clean oven. If you prefer not to use the Self-Clean cycle and want to hand clean the interior liner of a Self-Clean oven, this is perfectly acceptable. We are proving instructions for hand cleaning a Self-Clean oven below.
- Do not clean your Self-Clean oven with commercial oven cleaners, even those specifically designed for use with Self-Clean ovens.
- Continuous use of chemical cleaners on a Self-Cleaning oven liner will cause etching and discoloration of the liner. Eventually, this will cause the oven to not clean effectively when using the Self-Clean cycle.
Cleaning a Self-Clean Oven Manually
- Wipe out minimal amounts of soil using a dishwashing liquid soap and water solution. Use a cloth, sponge or plastic pad to clean away soils inside the oven. If heavy soil exists, we recommend the use of the Self-Clean cycle to thoroughly clean the oven.
- If you prefer to only hand clean the oven, a scouring pad (steel wool or plastic) may be used. Rub soiled areas lightly to prevent scratching into the oven liner surface. Do not use scouring powders.
- Household ammonia can also be used when manually cleaning a Self-Clean oven. Put a 1/2 cup of ammonia in a shallow glass or pottery container. Place the container of ammonia in a cold oven and leave it overnight. The ammonia fumes will help loosen burned-on grease and food. Do not turn the oven on while ammonia is inside.
- To remove any remaining stubborn, baked-on stains, apply a non-abrasive cleaner such as Bar Keepers Friend Liquid Soft Cleanser using a sponge or cloth.
- Rinse the oven liner well after hand cleaning. Soap residue left on the oven liner can cause staining or discoloration when a Self-Clean cycle is used.
